Last summer was my first experience in retail sales. It was scary, fun, and exhausting. Getting the Gourmet Lady store ready to open was a challenge: can I whip this property into shape and open this store in 30 days? You bet. Once it was open, I realized this was only the first hurdle of a long summer. I'd never thought about what goes on behind the scenes in a little store. (I salute all of you hard working merchants out there!) Towards the end of the summer, I met a new friend who did something very thoughtful for me. He had visited the store, and later checked out the website, noticing how much I love ginger. (My passion for ginger is quite hard to miss!) One evening when we had plans to dine out, he surprised me by showing up with a cooler which contained all the fixings for a meal with ginger beef as the entree. What a treat. I sat down, took my shoes off, put my feet up, had a nice glass of wine, and watched as this ginger beef dish came together in my kitchen. This is a brave guy, I thought, cooking for the Gourmet Lady. Ginger beef never tasted so good!! |
